FANO Survey

Over a period of time FANO members have held discussions in regard to Accreditation of Nutritionists and the members of all organisations were asked to respond to a survey in 2001 and then again in 2002.

At the FANO meeting held in Wollongong on 1st December 2002 FANO President Peter Williams (DAA) presented a report on the survey results. Here is the summary information.

Summary of the results of the 2002 Survey

There were 283 respondents, with the majority being DAA (136) and NSA (121) members. The main age group of respondents was 36 – 55 years (53%).

82% of respondents strongly agreed or agreed that accreditation will enable them to be distinguished from untrained practitioners in the area of nutrition, whereas 11% strongly disagreed or disagreed with this statement

60% strongly agreed or agreed that they would expect to be more employable in nutrition related areas if they were accredited nutritionists, 21% remained neutral and 19% strongly disagreed or disagreed.

66% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed they would consider their advice about diet and health to be more acceptable if they were accredited nutritionists, whereas 16% disagreed or strongly disagreed and 18% remained neutral.

Costs - Comment about APD status

42% of the 52 DAA responses commented that they were already paying DAA/APD fees and did not see why they should pay an additional fee.

13% (38) of total respondents commented that they were already paying DAA/APD fees and did not see why they should pay an additional fee.

At the FANO meeting on 1st December 2002 the following recommendation was made; that a Project Officer be employed to expand the model and investigate the process.
