The Charter Of The Federation Of Australian Nutrition Organisations

Name

The name of the organisation shall be Federation of Australian Nutrition Organisations and will be abbreviated to FANO for simplicity and everyday use.

Purpose

FANO is a coalition of interested and eligible parties formed with the purpose of:

• advancing nutrition interest and issues in the national arena
• advocating for the inclusion of nutrition in policy agenda at national and state levels
• providing a network for professional organisations focussed on food and nutrition
• identifying and advocating for nutrition related research

The philosophy which underpins FANO and its activities is that each point in the food chain from primary production to consumption impact on nutrition and the nutritional health of the Australian population. FANO is based on mutual recognition and respect for its members. It encourages communication and information sharing to advance common goals and objectives.

No member may speak on behalf of FANO without agreement from all members.

Mission

The mission of FANO is: To advance the collective nutrition effort through multifaceted and cooperative endeavours.

Membership

An inclusive rather than exclusive approach to membership shall be adopted. The members of FANO should have nutrition as one of their primary areas of interest. Given that many organisations include nutrition related activities it is felt that FANO membership is open to organisations which fulfil the following criteria:

• have a nutrition focus
• have a constitution
• support professionals in their endeavours
• include a research profile
• undertake advocacy with respect to nutrition
• express a willingness to form cooperative partnerships with other members
• have sufficient resources to support the mission

Affiliated membership

In keeping with the philosophy and food system approach stated herein, organisations which do not meet all of the criteria for membership but which can contribute to the purpose of FANO shall be eligible for affiliation.

Affiliated members shall be eligible to attend meetings and to receive correspondence but are ineligible to vote or to speak on behalf of FANO.

Officers

Officers of FANO shall be nominated by those organisation which are members. Affiliated members shall not be eligible for office bearing positions.

Amendments

Amendments to this Charter can be proposed by any member. No amendments shall be made to this Charter without all members approval.

Review of this Charter shall occur biennially or more frequently as required.
