Conference 2009

Nutrition Society of Australia & Nutrition Society of New Zealand Joint 2009 ASM

8 - 11 December 2009

This year's Annual Scientific Meeting of the Nutrition Society of Australia will be held in conjunction with the Nutrition Society of New Zealand in Newcastle, NSW, at the City Hall. The Newcastle Group of the Nutrition Society of Australia is delighted to be hosting this year's annual scientific meeting (ASM). We invite you to come and enjoy the beautiful harbour and beaches of Newcastle, just 45 min from the Hunter Valley vineyards.

The aim of the Society is to advance the scientific study of nutrition and its applications to people and animals. Today this area of science is more exciting than ever and the Society has a major role in disseminating high quality nutritional science amongst its members and to the community.

The theme of the conference is 'Nutrition in the 21st century'. A range of invited speakers from overseas, including Philip Calder from the UK, Sean Strain from Ireland and Joe Hibbeln and Hee-Yong Kim from the USA, as well as speakers from around Australia will present the latest information on a range of important nutritional areas.

Plenary Themes include:

  • Nutrient gene interactions
  • Nutrition, immune system and inflammation
  • Omega-3, brain and mental health
  • Structuring food for health
  • Diet and the colonic microflora

The conference will be attended by a wide range of people with an interest in nutrition science, including human nutritionists and dietitians, animal nutritionists, medical practitioners and nurses, agricultural scientists and veterinarians, food scientists, teachers, postgraduate students and complementary medicine practitioners. The conference should also provide an excellent marketing opportunity for food and associated companies through sponsorship and trade displays.
